gēn

Expressing "with" with "gen"

跟 marks who you do something with, and the phrase goes before the verb.

Subj. + 跟 + Person + Verb

How it works

你要跟我一起去吗? — do you want to come with me? The 跟 phrase precedes the verb, as prepositional phrases always do.

和 works the same way in this use, and 与 is the written form.

跟 also introduces the person you talk to: 我跟他说了.
