更 means "even more" — it assumes a baseline that's already true.

How it works

更好 is "even better", implying the current one is already good. 我想找一个更有钱的男朋友 says the present one isn't poor.

It slots into 比 comparisons for emphasis: 他比我更高.

更 differs from 最 (most) and from 比较 (comparatively, rather).
