Expressing "the more… the more…" with "yue… yue…"

越…越… links two things that rise together.

Subj. + 越 + Verb + 越 + Adj. / Verb

How it works

她越想越生气 — the more she thought about it, the angrier she got.

Both halves take their own 越, and both belong to the same subject.

越来越 is the special case where the first half is simply the passage of time.

  • tā yuè xiǎng yuè shēng qì

    她越想越生气。

    The more she thought about it, the angrier she got.

  • yǔ yuè xià yuè dà

    雨越下越大。

    The rain got heavier and heavier.

  • wǒ yuè xué yuè xǐ huan zhōng wén

    我越学越喜欢中文。

    The more I study, the more I like Chinese.
