At the end of a statement, 呢 insists gently — "you know", "come on".

How it works
我不要回家。还早呢！ — I don't want to go home, it's still early! The 呢 pushes back on what the other person assumed.
It also stretches an ongoing action, often with 在: 他在睡觉呢.
This is separate from the 呢 that turns a noun into a question, though both sit at the end of the sentence.
