Using "youde" to mean "some"
有的 picks out part of a known group, usually in a series of contrasts.
有的 + Noun ⋯⋯，有的 ⋯⋯
How it works
派对的时候，有的人在喝酒，有的人在跳舞 — at the party, some were drinking, some dancing. It works best in pairs or threes.
The difference from 一些 is that 有的 divides a group you've already established, while 一些 simply introduces an unspecified amount.
Once the noun is clear, 有的 can stand alone: 有的很贵，有的很便宜.
Examples
yǒu de rén zài hē jiǔ, yǒu de rén zài tiào wǔ
有的人在喝酒，有的人在跳舞。
Some people were drinking, some were dancing.
zhè xiē shū yǒu de hěn guì, yǒu de hěn pián yi
这些书有的很贵，有的很便宜。
Some of these books are expensive, some are cheap.
yǒu de shí hou wǒ bù xiǎng shuō huà
有的时候我不想说话。
Sometimes I don't feel like talking.
