再
zài
Expressing "again" in the future with "zai"
再 is "again" for repetitions that haven't happened yet.
再 + Verb
How it works
我下次再来 — I'll come again next time. 再见 is literally "see you again".
For a repetition that already happened, Chinese uses 又 instead. That split — 再 for the future, 又 for the past — has no English equivalent and is worth memorising early.
再 also means "then" in sequences: 先洗手,再吃饭.
