Using the verb "qu"

去 takes a destination directly — no preposition in between.

Subj. + 去 + Place (+ Verb Phrase)

How it works

我去学校 is "I'm going to school". Chinese needs no equivalent of "to"; the place follows 去 straight away.

You can attach a purpose after the place: 我去学校学习中文 (I'm going to school to study Chinese).

Examples

  • wǒ qù xué xiào

    我去学校。

    I'm going to school.

  • míng tiān nǐ qù nǎr?

    明天你去哪儿?

    Where are you going tomorrow?

  • wǒ men qù fàn diàn chī fàn ba

    我们去饭店吃饭吧。

Let's go to a restaurant to eat.

Common mistakes

  • Don't insert 到 or 在: 我去到学校 is wrong.
