duō

Asking about degree with "duo"

多 plus an adjective asks "how" — how tall, how far, how old.

Subj. + 多 + Adj. ?

How it works

他多高? is "how tall is he?". The pattern pairs 多 with a positive adjective: 多高, 多远, 多大, 多重.

The adjective is always the positive one. You ask 多大 (how big) even about a small child, and 多高 even if you expect the answer to be short.

多少 is a separate word meaning "how many/how much" — don't confuse the two.
